JOB PROFILE: Seeking professional Activities Associate for Memory Care Community.
Must be passionate about working with Seniors with dementia, patient and open to learning. Candidate must be flexible with the ability to improvise.
➢ Assists the Recreation Director in program planning.
➢ Visits with residents, providing social stimulation.
➢ Reports to Recreation Director on resident responses and/or progress to specific approaches utilized.
➢ Responsible for general housekeeping duties in areas where Recreation activities occur.
➢ Ability to recognize any physical, mental, or behavioral change in a resident, which may signify a change in resident condition, and report such change immediately to the charge person on the resident’s unit.
➢ Demonstrates sensitivity and professionalism in dealing with residents, residents’ families and other visitors.
Training and Compliance:
➢ Attends in-service training and continuing education workshops as requested or approved by the Recreation Director.
➢ Adheres to established policies and procedures of the facility.
➢ Maintains resident confidentiality in all activities.
➢ May perform other duties as assigned.
➢ High School diploma or GED equivalent; some college preferred or comparable life experience
➢ Must possess a current Virginia Drivers License, verified by a motor vehicle record.
➢Ability and willingness to provide exceptional customer service.
➢ At least 1 year of Recreation/Activities experience in a dementia care environment (preferred)
➢ Must be proficient with basic technology (i.e. ipads, smart tv, general computer knowledge)
PREFERRED SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
➢ At least one (1) year experience in a nursing facility, a long-term care setting or a recreational/art/crafts program.
➢ Understands the purpose and desired results of games, crafts, and activities; conscious of feelings, emotions and concerns of residents.
➢ Prior experience working with the geriatric population.
➢ Good physical and mental health, producing upon hire, and at least every twelve (12) months thereafter, a satisfactory examination from a physician or equivalent indicating that the individual is free from any health impairment which is of potential risk to residents or which might interfere with the performance of the individuals duties. In addition, individual must produce a ppd (Mantoux) skin test for tuberculosis within thirty (30) days prior to employment and no less frequently than every two years after employment begins.
➢ Occasional twisting, bending, squatting, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and balancing.
➢ Ability to sit, stand and walk during all shifts.
➢ May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds and may need to carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
➢ Must be able to be on their feet much of the day.
➢ Must be able to move furniture as needed to prepare for Recreational programs.
